An oak framed extension Wiltshire

The owners of this thatched house wanted to add an extension that was in keeping with their captivating cottage.

Project profile

Oak frames make wonderful extensions, especially for cottages as they can add to the character of the existing house. As you can see from the photos this bespoke extension is full of character and the perfect place to relax in.

This oak framed extension Wiltshire contains a sun filled living room with a glazed gable end, two raised collar trusses and a studied tie beam truss. Internally the living room has oak rafters and a stunning log burner.  Externally the frame has weathered beautifully to create a silvered effect.

This lovely oak framed extension Wiltshire also has oak glazing on the gable end. The process of glazing an oak frame is actually a bit more complex than first thought – to find out more about oak frame glazing then read our blog.

One of the challenges we faced with this build was the access. Access to the site was incredibly tight – however with pre-site visits and preparation we overcame this issue.

We designed the frame with a local architectural company, DPDS Architecture in Wiltshire.
