Historic Timber Reconstructions
At Carpenter Oak & Woodland we are fortunate to be able to bring our timber engineering skills to bear on some of the most interesting projects.
Carpenter Oak and Woodland have become known as experts in reconstructions of historical timber structures and working machinery, not least of which in the area of war machines.
Two builds shown here are a Ballista (a Roman catapult) constructed for a BBC production ‘Building the Impossible’, and an attempt to build a large scale crossbow from original drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci filmed in ‘Leonardo’s Dream Machines’ Most recently, we have built the worlds largest trebuchet, a construction of a mediaeval catapult device. This working model, which fires twice daily during the summer season is now a major tourist attraction at Warwick Castle.
