I can’t believe that all your work is over so soon, it doesn’t seem that long ago we were looking at the piles of oak in the yard. Thank you all so much for your hard work and for what I’m sure is going to be a very stunning home.B Mayall, London
Commercial and public buildings
Carpenter Oak & Woodland helps to design and build elegant commercial and public buildings which are a joy to both visit and use.
Creating everything from traditional ‘barn-style’ buildings to highly contemporary structures, which combine oak with modern materials in a cutting-edge design.
Places of work, living and leisure
The very nature of an green oak frame elevates the aesthetics of a building beyond the functional – into something that people instinctively connect with, making a timber frame as relevant an architectural choice as it ever was. A timber frame is a great choice for boathouses, children’s adventure playgrounds, golf clubs, railway station waiting rooms, restaurants, offices, residential complexes, visitor centres – and all kinds of leisure facilities.
Timber frame design and construction expertise
We believe that, over the last twenty-five years, we’ve built more truly bespoke oak frames than any other UK company. (We even train others within our industry, via a course that’s widely acknowledged as the finest available – and is used as the basis for NVQ courses.) Our work has also won more industry awards than all of our competitors combined – including multiple awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and multiple Wood Awards.
Collaborating together to push the boundaries
We collaborate with the project team, its architects, engineers and stakeholders, helping to create a timber frame that matches the unique vision and purpose of the building. Our experience enables us to handle the most challenging designs with confidence – and encourages others to push back the boundaries of what they thought possible.
Although all of our work is bespoke and handcrafted, it is competitively priced – seldom more expensive than inferior products which use automated production methods. For larger buildings especially, timber can be surprisingly cost-effective. We encourage clients and architects to speak to us early on in a project, as this ensures lowest cost design. And, in our experience, the most successful projects are those where we have been involved from the outset.
